See us at Maker Faire!

Yes, that logo means what you think it means. [ profile] colletteshorses and I are all official and stuff for displaying the fireflies at the Maker Faire in San Mateo. The name of our little company is Humble Earth and we expect to be set up in the Dark Room, as the little fireflies aren't exactly a big deal out in the sunshine...

I've got a pilot run of 100 fireflies in the works right now, and we have to plan our booth and get something neato going. Selling price is still TBD, as we have a lot of calculations to do in order to try to just break even.

More info (and begging for assistance/assistants) to come as we get closer!

OMG, those fireflies you had at crown were YOURS? I didn't realize that! They were adorable!

Yep, they are mine. Filed the patent paperwork a few weeks ago, and been wrestling with all kinds of new tools and issues learning how to actually build the little monsters in quantity.

I have to admit that colletteshorses was a little mystified as to why I thought they were neat at all, but when she saw the reactions of those who grew up where fireflies are, she realized that there is indeed a market for them. So, here we go!

When I visit back east I try to time it for firefly season. It would be wonderful to have our own fireflies out here in silicon country! I just love the idea.

So what are the fireflies?

Your Web site you linked to isn't showing up for isn't in DNS or whois.

Oops - wrong link. Try at

There isn't a picture there (yet). The fireflies are electronic (PIC) solar powered units about half the size of a business card. At dusk, they start their characteristic pattern (with fade on and off) of the correct color and intensity. About two hours later, they turn off and wait for another day/night cycle. Hang them on a fishing line from something that can move (bushes, trees, etc) and they look wonderful.

I missed fireflies, and since there aren't any here, I made my own.

That's so cool.
Do you want help at the faire?

Sure. I'll cover a limited number of admissions for assistants (they give us a few free I think).

Look for a posting in the near future in order to organize help.

Cool. I also look forward to ordering a few fireflies for my mom. I know she really misses them.

I wish I could help out but I'm already committed to the Westermark demo.

Let me know when you have a few fireflies for sale because I am charmed by them.
